Let’s appreciate the summer and refresh our senses in a dancing Puglia<\/a>. Ancient manor farms and historical abbeys open to the public where to listen music and talks, re-design the traditions of taranta and pizzica music, amidst delicious food and events.<\/p>\n

Locorotondo<\/a> hosts Locus Festival,<\/strong>a jazz festival featuring international artists from <\/em>26th July to 10th August 2013 and the Sagra Pirotecnica della Valle d\u2019Itria <\/strong>a national competition in pyrotechnics for Locorotondo’s patron saint, San Rocco.<\/p>\n

For the opera and classical music lovers unmissable is the Festival della Valle D’Itria <\/strong>that has been running since 1975. The 2013 edition features music and operas by Verdi and Wagner in a celebration of the bicenteries of their births from\u00a0 13th July up 1st August in\u00a0 Martina Franca.<\/p>\n

Jazz festival are almost everywhere: Otranto Jazz Festival (<\/strong>26th-28th July 2013) in\u00a0<\/em> Minervino, Maglie, Lecce and Otranto, Ceglie Open Jazz Festival, a<\/strong>n annual jazz festival features concerts by some of Italy’s top groups in <\/em><\/em> Ceglie Messapica<\/p>\n

One of the most famous and well-known festival is La Notte della Taranta: <\/strong>Pizzica, the Salento\u2019s tarantella dance, is on stage from\u00a0 6th up to 24th August 2013 in\u00a0 the towns of Grecia Salentina <\/strong><\/a>including Melpignano<\/strong>. An occasion to get back to the roots!<\/p>\n

Throughout July and August, watermelon is a star to celebrate almost everywhere, along the frisella, a typical dried, bagel-shaped bread. In the third week of July, Crispiano has a lovely food festival: fegatino (liver), lumache (snails), focaccia (bread) and gelato (ice cream).
\nAugust is the sagre season: interesting the Sagra della Polpetta in Felline (Lecce)<\/strong>.\u00a0 On the 15th of August, Sannicandro di Bari<\/strong> celebrates one of the most traditional Puglia’s pasta: orecchiette.<\/p>\n

Still in Puglia the 1st weekend of September? Go and visit Carpignano Salentino for La Festa \u201cTe lu Mieru\u201d <\/strong>which counts 3 days of concerts, music, dancing, local food and lots of gorgeous wine aka “lu mieru“.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\t\t\t
