Due to these characteristics it is well known around the world.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to its geographical position Calabria has always been a<strong> meeting place of different cultures and people<\/strong>s. The traditions and art are evidence of ancient civilizations that settled and lived here.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1542\" src=\"http:\/\/www.crossingitaly.net\/travel\/wp-content\/uploads\/loloieg.jpg\" alt=\"loloieg\" width=\"240\" height=\"180\" \/><br \/>\nAmong the major civilizations there are <strong>Egyptians, Greeks, Byzantines, Carthaginians and Romans<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It begins with the Calabria&#8217;s Tyrrhenian Coast, named <strong>\u201cRiviera dei Cedri&#8221; <\/strong>(Coast of the Cedars: this part of the coast is named after the cultivation of cedar), which has <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">22 villages<\/span>. The coast continues with <strong>800 kilometres of white sandy beaches<\/strong>, interrupted here and there by <strong>granite cliffs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>After the Riviera dei Cedri there is the small town of <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Diamante<\/span><\/strong>, one of the most important tourist destinations in Italy. The city name derives from its beauty and its location.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1541\" src=\"http:\/\/www.crossingitaly.net\/travel\/wp-content\/uploads\/1-2-3...Stellagr.jpg\" alt=\"1 2 3...Stella!gr\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.crossingitaly.net\/travel\/wp-content\/uploads\/1-2-3...Stellagr.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.crossingitaly.net\/travel\/wp-content\/uploads\/1-2-3...Stellagr-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Diamante is located on a ledge of the coast and is surrounded by beautiful plantations of cedar trees, thus appears to be <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">embedded between sea and mountains<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>In the most ancient part of the town it is interesting to visit the<strong> Church of the Immaculate Conception<\/strong>, built in 1600, but amended several times up to the twentieth century.<\/p>\n<p>This church is linked to the legend of the wooden statue of the Madonna, from which it takes its name.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1543\" src=\"http:\/\/www.crossingitaly.net\/travel\/wp-content\/uploads\/candido33.jpg\" alt=\"candido33\" width=\"180\" height=\"240\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The<strong> legend says <\/strong>the wooden statue of the Madonna was on a ship that had to take it to Sicily. But the ship mysteriously stopped right in front of Diamante and wasn\u2019t able to leave again until the statue was brought into the church where it is even now located.
