Posted by grazia on January 25th, 2010 — in Liguria

Paolo Rosa gr

The main road leading to the city of La Spezia goes through green hills till reaching the Gulf of Spezia, better known as the Gulf of Poets.

Reaching La Spezia via this road is an amazing journey and allows visitors to appreciate an important aspect of the Liguria region.Marco$

The hills in Liguria occupies much of the territory and are up to 900 meters high.

They are full of crops colouring the landscape with olive trees, grapes and many species of flowers and aromatic plants such as poppies, mint, sage and daffodils.

There are also forests of pine, chestnut, beech, oaks and holm oaks.

The hilly landscape also presents numerous passages and crossings, including: Ginestro pass, Turchino pass, Bocchetta pass, Jupiter pass and Scoffera pass.

Once near La Spezia visitors face the Gulf of Poets, crowned by those green hills. And the landscape in both directions, although very different, is beautiful.

The land enclosed between the coast and the mountains behind the hills is the hinterland of Liguria. (more…)

Hiking in Cinque Terre

Posted by internetauthor on January 15th, 2010 — in Liguria

terre

While visiting the coastal area of Cinque Terre, most tourists travel at least part of the way on foot. The coastal footpath that connects the “five lands”, Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore, is an ideal way to experience the beauty of the region and to get out of the car and breathe in fresh air again. Hiking in the Cinque Terre is particularly popular with families with children who need to get out and move from time to time.

Hiking the Coastal Path
The long coastal path has different levels of ruggedness offering more or less challenge depending on preference and ability. The hike from Monterosso to Vernazza and on to Corniglia requires you to be in pretty good shape, but others are more pleasant for everyone – even those who are most comfortable at a gentle stroll. Families with young children or those who would prefer to walk rather than hike would enjoy the trail between Corniglia and Manarola as well as the paved Via dell’Amore between Manarola and Riomaggiore.

Selecting the Right Hike
There is a wide variety of hiking available in Cinque Terre, and no two hikes are the same. (more…)

Trebbia valley and the town of Bobbio.

Both in Genoa and Piacenza people think that the Ligurian-Emilian Val Trebbia is one of the most beautiful valleys of the Northern Apennines.

Here there is a river beginning to flow as a torrent rich in bright colours and becoming a river of crystal clear waters towards the end of its flowing. The view is of a wooded valley with few villages scattered around.

Beautiful views of the other mountainsides with the blue of the artificial lake, the red roofs of the fabcomhouses, the dark green of forests and the light green of meadows. All this is protected by the Regional Natural Park Antola.

The most important city of the Val di Trebbia is undoubtedly Bobbio, which is located on the territory of Piacenza. If we look at a map we notice its privileged and dominant position, near the river Trebbia and surrounded by lush green nature.

This city is an ideal place for an alternative, but very interesting vacation. The city is well connected with the major cities around and offers a lot of accommodation, restaurants, cafes and entertainment. (more…)
