The Dolomites (known also as the pale Mountains) are a section of the Eastern Alps, in Italy. About 70% of these mountains are included within the Province of Belluno in Veneto, the other part is distributed among the provinces of Bolzano, Trento, Vicenza, Udine and Pordenone.
On 26th June 2009 these mountains have been included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Site. This decision was taken to Seville by the World Heritage Committee unanimously by all twenty members of that committee.
Some of the most famous holiday destinations in the Dolomites are: Cortina d'Ampezzo, Ortisei and Selva di Val Gardena, Canazei in Val di Fassa, Canale d’Agordo in Valle del Biois, Cavalese in Val di Fiemme, San Martino di Castrozza in Primiero, Arabba in Val di Livinallongo, Corvara in Val Badia, Pinzolo and Madonna di Campiglio in Val Rendena.
