The Lake Maggiore, of glacial origin, also called Verbano, is the westernmost of the Great Prealpine Lakes and the second largest after Lake Garda.
Its area is about 213 square kilometers, 66 kilometers long and 12 kilometers wide.
It is deep about 175 meters and its tributaries are the Ticino and Toce.
Its fortunate location, the historic and artistic heritage and the mild climate both in summer and winter, favouring a type of Mediterranean vegetation, with beautiful gardens where even tropical plants grow well, created many little villages and towns, frequented by a lot of Italian and foreigner tourists.
