Lake Como has a surface area of 145.9 square km and a maximum depth of 410 meters.
It is situated in a valley and has a characteristic inverted Y shape. It receives water from about forty tributaries including the Adda and Mera, the most important.
The lake is rich in fish such as whitefish, trout, pike and bleak and lush vegetation that grows on its banks.
There are Mediterranean olive and lemon trees, azaleas, rhododendrons and camellias, which together with the historic beauties of the nearby centers made of it a very busy tourist destination.
