The main city in the region is Milan.
It is an area rich in rivers and lakes.
It is crossed in its southern part by the river Po and its major tributaries.
There are also the largest lakes in Italy: Lake Como, Lake Maggiore, Lake Garda and Lake Iseo.
Tourism has its strengths in the lacunar bath establishments and in the numerous cities adorned with palaces and ancient churches like Milan, Mantua and Pavia.

The mountains are well equipped for winter sports, among the most popular sites there are Bormio, Livigno, Santa Aprica, Caterina Valfurva, Madesimo, Ponte di Legno and Passo del Tonale.
