Since ancient times Genoa is one of the most important maritime cities in Italy. It was established by Liguri in the VI century AD, who originally settled on the hill where the Castle stands.
It consists of boroughs along the coast: Voltri, Pegli, Sestri Ponente, Sestri Levante Nervi to others.
The center is built around the bay of the port and testifies the Renaissance and Baroque times with several monuments, including the palaces of the Rolli, which is Unesco heritage.
Of great importance the Aquarium, one of the largest in Europe.
