Latina is the youngest province in Latium. Its territory is fundamentally characterized by the naturalistic point of view, because it is the heir of those who once were inhospitable and unhealthy Pontine Marshes. It extended to more than 75,000 hectares infested by malaria.
Recovered such a large territory, five new cities were founded, including Littoria, today's Latina.
At the time of reclamation of the marshes also it dates back to the design of the national park of Circeo, wanted to preserve part of the extraordinary natural environment, now protected by UNESCO.
Beyond the promontory of Circeo there are the beautiful islands of Ponza, Ponza, Zanone, Palmarola and Ventotene, while just south of the Gulf of Gaeta hinterland remain picturesque seaside resorts and cities of the Roman times.
