The Bolsena's lake is situated at 305 meters on sea level and with its surface measuring 114 square kilometres; it is the biggest volcanic lake in Europe.
Actually, it has formed during many centuries after a series of ground's collapses caused by eruptions coming from many volcanic mouths. Martana Isles are remains of two cones, where there are ruins of a Medieval Castle and of S. Stefano Church, and Bisentina, where you can find Farnese Palace, S.Giacomo and S.Cristoforo Churches , works of Antonio da Sangallo il Giovane.
The lake is nourished by different sub-aqueous sources and puts up many different species of fishes that it's very difficult to find in other Italian lakes. It is called "the lake that can be drunk"because of the transparency of its waters.
