Trieste is an Italian town of 205,411 inhabitants and is located in Friuli Venezia Giulia. It is one of 15 metropolitan cities in Italy .
Situated on the coast of Friuli, in the heart of the Gulf of Trieste, the city lies on the border with Slovenia.
The origins of Trieste are ancient and the first attestations of the presence of man in this area date back to prehistory.
Trieste is one of the richest Italian cities in an artistic sense. In the beautiful historic city are in fact many historical buildings, rich in charm and artistic beauties.
They include:
Miramare Castle, the symbol of the city, and the Castle of San Giusto:
the Basilica of San Giusto and the Church of San Silvestro.
During the Second World War, Trieste was, despite itself, at the centre of world chronicles, as close to the town was the only concentration camp in Italy with crematoria: the Rice Mill of San Sabba (now a museum and national monument).
The city's economy is very diverse and ranges from industrial to tourism.
