Friuli-Venezia Giulia is a region in the north-east of about 1.2 million inhabitants, with Trieste as the main city.
It is an autonomous region with special status, formed by Friuli (which constitutes about 90% of the country, with Udine as main city), and by Venezia Giulia, physically separated from the river Isonzo.
It is bordered to the east by Slovenia, the Veneto to the west, and to south by the Adriatic Sea.
Friuli Venezia Giulia is mainly a mountainous region, in fact the mountains occupy 42.5% of its territory. Plains occupy 38.1% of the territory while hills only 19.3%.
It offers a quiet and clean sea, in Grado and Lignano, with thousands of services and entertainment for adults and children.
It is famous for its Prosciutto di San Daniele and its wines, for its small town suspended in time and for its art cities such as Trieste and Udine.
