Paestum is the most important archaeological greek site in the south of Naples. The Greeks, who founded this city in the VI century BC, meant to build the city of the God Poseidon.

The Romans conquered it changing the name in 273 BC. In the IX century BC, because of Saracen invasion, fell into decline and was abandoned.
It was rediscovered in the XVIII century.

Paestum is today visited by thousands of tourists from all over the world for its massive Doric nearly intact temple and other important monuments.
