Forio is the second municipality on the Isle of Ischia, by population and importance.
It lies between two promontories, Punta Caruso and Punta Imperatore, between the most beautiful beaches of the island and the metallic green of the vines.

Forio has a surface area of 13 square kilometres with a population of about 12,500 inhabitants and its altitude ranges from 0 to 700 meters above sea level.
It is divided into the fractions of Forio and Panza with other peripheral villages (Monterone, Cuotto, Citara).

It is the cultural center of the island and has preserved intact its old town with narrow streets, churches, sighting towers and monuments.

Major monuments:
the Church of the Soccorso (reported on a stamp of Poste Italiane) dedicated to Santa Maria della Neve;
the Tower;
the church of San Francesco da Paola;
the church of the Arciconfraternita of Santa Maria delle Grazie;
the Basilica Pontificia;
the Church of St. Vito;
the parish church of St. Leonardo Abate;
and S. Maria al Monte.
