It covers an area of 13,596 sq km.
National Parks: National Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano and Vesuvio National Park.
In ancient times Campania was inhabited by populations of Samnite origin. From the eighth century began the Greek colonization and subsequently came under the Romans that they called Campania Felix.
Considerable archaeological evidences are in the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum remained buried for centuries after the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD.
There are some very famous islands, including Ischia, Capri and Procida.
The Amalfi Coast is one of the most beautiful seaside destinations in the region.
