Nowadays "Ai Gondolieri" is one of the best Venetian restaurant but its origin dates back to the first decades of the 20th century as the meeting place of the inhabitants and workers of that area. Its signboard is in forties characters and it is protected as historical sign by the Venetian city Council.
The restaurant is in a quiet area of Venice very close to the Guggenheim Foundation and the Academy Galleries. The restaurant has two rooms and a bar which is at the entrance, where costumers can still drink a glass of wine or an aperitif. It serves not a standard fish menu but a series of dishes inspired by the season first fruits and very particular meats.
